Android Support
Unfortunately we are not looking at Android at this time. We're big fans of Android but it's just not economical for small developers like us to manage two operating systems.
The Android OS update rate is much lower than iOS and that leaves us with too many Android devices with too many configurations, too many versions of the operating system, etc. and it would be a nightmare for us to support.
The following links illustrate the difference in adoption between iOS and Android OS.
- Android adoption rate to latest OS is 22.6% after 12 months: https://venturebeat.com/2019/10/23/android-pie-passes-20-adoption-after-12-months/
- iOS 13 adoption rate at 80% after 3 months. iOS 12 & 13 combined at 94%: https://venturebeat.com/2020/01/29/as-ios-and-ipados-13-near-80-adoption-is-the-race-with-android-over/
Boating Suite supports iOS 11 and later and this accounts for more than 99% of all iOS users. It is much easier to support users on a common base compared to Android’s fragmented base.
We evaluate the idea regularly and we'll jump in when the platform gets less fragmented and more economically viable.
In the meantime, our app supports and runs natively on the the iPad.
